Lucy Holmes the athlete

From a very early age Lucy has enjoyed running. The day after her 8th birthday she asked if she could start training at the Wakefield Harriers Athletic Club - interested boys and girls could join the Junior Jets at the club on reaching the age of 8.
This was the start of a successful athletic career for Lucy as she repeatedly performed well in the short sprint events, becoming the West Yorkshire Track and Field sprint champion for her first 4 years in succession, as well as taking overall first position in the points awarded throughout the season each year.
Having progressed to additional events Lucy has proved to be an excellent performer in most disciplines and last year she was the Yorkshire under 15 Long Jump champion. Now she is working hard at learning to run the 300m and although still only 15 she came 4th in that event for under 17s in the Yorkshire Championships in only her third attempt at the distance this year. This followed a day after gaining a silver medal in the under 17 200m, both at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.
Other highlights so far have been as a member of the West Yorkshire schools team in the All England Schools Championships at Gateshead in 2006 and Birmingham in 2007.
She was also a member of the Yorkshire team in a Northern Counties match at Gateshead in 2006.
Lucy's love of athletics has taken her to many venues throughout the North of England and has led to her making many friends with a similar passion for the sport.
